What ever happened to being genuine? In a day in age when Social Media has allowed each and every individual a means to build a public persona, regardless of whether the persona reflects reality or not, leaders must be vigilant.
Do you know who I’m talking about?
- Those people who create or post glamor shots rather than a photo that reflects their true appearance.
- Those who post dramatic phrases or statements as if they are the only ones who have experienced something.
- Those who publicly embellish upon their feelings towards others, as if no one else experiences such feelings.
It’s easy to get drawn into using social media in ways that may appear to create a persona that is less then genuine. Sure you might think that it won’t happen to you. You might also think whatever you do on your time is no one else’s business, and you’re right. But what about the image you’re creating.
If you want the attention and more importantly the respect of others try being genuine. It’s okay to let people see your true feelings (the good and the bad); what you look like at various times during the day. But when you speak, do so because you have something to say, not because you want to be heard.
True leaders are genuine. How about you?
